This memory play takes place between 1898 and 1923 as seen through the world of the blind Frankie. The world in which we see the characters is heavily textured, just as Frankie would have interpreted them. Those who become controlling figures in Frankie's life are represented as dark presences. Those who help reconnect her with her childhood love become more colorful and textured, methods through which Frankie can grasp her memories while representing the true periods and the world of the dusty Midwest.
