The use of recycled materials and "trash" to create a rebirth of old items was important in each costume. Each actor was also given a costume piece to symbolize her character. For example Judas's trash is mostly silver (symbolizing his betrayal of Jesus w/ 30 pieces of silver), Jesus gives the cast watches to represent his time left with them and bares the recycle (rebirth) symbol rather than the symbolic Superman symbol from the 70s production, and the ensemble become symbolic personalities in culture: the earth mother, the hip hop artist, the raver, the computer geek, the goodie two shoes, the class clown, and the fix it kid.
