The ghosts were the most interesting challenge in bringing Charles Dickens' characters to the stage. The director envisioned our story as being told through the eyes of a child and conceptualizing how childhood dictates our future selves. Thus the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come's silent presence was represented in the image of a young Victorian child. She stood white, innocent, and doll-like, showing Scrooge to his fate. The Ghost of Christmas Present represented a Celtic version of St. Nick, and the Ghost of Christmas Past became a cold, glowing figure of memory. The ghost of Marley wore silkscreened images of bank notes, time, and money wrapped in the chains he created for himself from his greed.
